Logo UN Principles Responsible BankingAchmea Bank has become an official Signatory of the UN Principles for Responsible Banking – a single framework for a sustainable banking industry developed through a partnership between banks worldwide and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).

Pierre Huurman, Chairman of Achmea Bank’s Executive Board:

“We are proud to have signed the Principles for Responsible Banking and to join UNEP-FI. This underlines our commitment to contribute to the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. We will continue working on more sustainable business practices in line with this commitment. Additionally, we continue to work on more transparency in this area. In December 2021 we published our new ESG-policy. Lastly, we will republish our Green House Gas emissions in the first half of 2022 and will keep working with the Principles to strengthen our approach further.”

Banks who have signed the Principles commit to be ambitious in their sustainability strategies, working to mainstream and embed sustainability into the heart of their business, while allowing them to remain at the cutting-edge of sustainable finance.

Under the Principles, signatory banks measure the environmental and social impact resulting from their business activities, set and implement targets where they have the most significant impact, and regularly report publicly on their progress. The Principles provide a framework for banks to systematically understand the risks and seize the opportunities arising from the transition to more sustainable economies.
